The news industry faces a host of challenges that jeopardize its livelihood. With the internet taking over as the dominant provider of news and information, traditional newspaper companies struggle to maintain competitive advantage over extensive free web content.
As an interdisciplinary team of graduate design and human-computer interaction students, our charge was to explore opportunities for an informed, sustainable design solution for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. We developed a system redesign that cultivates a deeper relationship between PG and its readership in meeting their information needs while addressing the demands of a changing industry. Our solution, the Artisanal Post-Gazette, encompasses web and print for a personalized and intelligent news consumption experience.
